Winter has arrived! I could feel the chill in the air as I got out of bed this morning.

In winter, coughs, colds, runny noses and sore throats are almost guaranteed to strike in every family. There is also an increase in burn injuries in winter, mainly due to heaters, hot cups of tea and even hot water bottles. This month we will explore proper coughing and hand-washing etiquette to keep those germs at bay and what to do if your child is burned.

On a different note, over the past few months we have been extremely busy at CPR Kids with the overwhelming response to our Knowledge for Life classes at Prince of Wales Private Hospital and Northshore Private Hospital as well as the partnership with Westpac to develop the Rescue Rashie. We are also delighted to announce that our Baby CPR and First Aid class is now available in Victoria. It is being hosted by Northpark Private Hospital in Bundoora. With all these recent activities, we are well on our way to empowering all parents and parents-to-be, and their families, with life saving skills

Stay warm until next time,

Snakes on a plane or in a playground!
An article by CPR Kids Operations Manager, Registered Nurse and Midwife Nicole Ovens
A recent article in a newspaper reporting that a snake was found in a playground on the Northern Beaches of Sydney motivates me to write this. Reflecting on this article, I wondered why I had only given a fleeting thought to reptiles, mini beasts and other little critters lurking, camouflaged and unseen where our children are playing. I’m a mother after all, a carer of children.
