I qualified as a Paediatric Nurse in the UK 20 years ago and spent 15 years within General Paediatrics, Paediatric High Dependency and Neonatal surgery. I worked in the UK for 15 years until my husband and I, along with our 3 boys, embarked on a big adventure and emigrated to Australia. I currently work in a Special Care Nursery and have done for almost 4 years.
Children’s Nursing is very family focused and involves teaching parents and caregivers essential knowledge and skills to enable them to care for their baby/child confidently. I get a lot of job satisfaction from this, it’s a lovely feeling at the end of a shift knowing that I have empowered parents and families and made a difference, therefore teaching is a passion of mine.
Motherhood, as rewarding as it is, has presented me with many challenges! My boys are aged 11, 13 and 18 and I have had personal experience of medical emergencies with all 3. They have all had hospital admissions for one reason or another and it was a very worrying time, even for me as a paediatric Nurse and knowing how to deal with such emergencies, I found the experiences overwhelming. Therefore, being able to teach Baby and Child CPR & First aid to parents and caregivers and empowering you to deal with emergency situations confidently is an absolute privilege.
